Shri Chandana Vidyapeeth Jain School UK (SCVP), with the grace and blessings of Pujya Tai Ma, held its annual Samayik event in July. About 80 adults and children participated in the Samayik which focused on the Life and Times of the 22nd Tirthankara, Neminath Bhagwan. Children and teachers of SCVP recited beautifully and confidently the samayik sutras, narrated stories in adoration of Neminath Bhagwan and sang melodious stavans.
The samayik highlighted three stories which were acted out or recited by the children:
- The story of Prince Nemkumar renouncing his wedding to avoid the needless slaughter of animals for the wedding feast and then taking diksha to search for the truth that will bring happiness to every living being.
- The story of Lord Krishna interrupting his journey to see Neminath Bhagwan to help an old man to transport bricks demonstrating that we must always look at any situation with awareness and keep at the forefront of our mind an unwavering commitment to helping others, and prioritise this, even when we have an important destination or goal in mind.
- The story of Gajusukamala who had burning hot embers placed on his head but recognised that this was happening solely because of his own past karmas and that he should not react but instead use this situation as an opportunity to purify himself further by recognising that the body is different from the soul.
Indeed Pujya Tai Ma and all the sadhvijis of Veerayatan have followed the path of being able to detach themselves from worldly matters no matter what hardships they have encountered. They have etched in their heart at all times the practice of ‘Mettim Bhuesu Kappaye’, friendship and forgiveness for all, even those who have hurt them.
Well done to all the children, teachers, parents and volunteers for this peaceful Samayik with so much learning!
