Ahimsa Day Celebrations at House of Commons 2025

Veerayatan UK was honoured and grateful to be represented by both Trustees and SCVP teachers at the House of Commons for the 22nd annual Ahimsa Day celebrations hosted by the Institute of Jainology (IoJ) team. It was a wonderful setting with a distinguished gathering that included Members of Parliament, leaders from Jain and other faith communities, academics, and dignitaries from major institutions to reflect on this year’s theme - “The role of faith during a time of multiple existential crises – with specific reference to Nostra Aetate.” Nostra Aetate is the landmark Vatican document that called upon Catholics to recognise, preserve, and promote the spiritual, moral, and cultural values of other faiths through dialogue and collaboration.

The event was chaired by Dr Mehool Sanghrajka MBE, Managing Trustee of the IoJ and attended by many key dignitaries, who recognised the significant contribution of the Jain community in the UK and praised IOJ’s continued work in raising the profile and recognition of the Jain Faith, emphasising the shared virtues of humility, harmony, and love between the Jain and Christian faiths.

During the event Dr Sohan Lal Gandhi was awarded the IoJ Ahimsa Award 2025 with his citation celebrating his lifelong dedication to promoting non-violence, peace, and interfaith understanding.

We are hugely grateful for the ongoing work of Dr Mehoolbhai Sanghrajka and the IoJ team in continuing to raise the profile of the Jain community both within the UK and globally and the propagation of Jain values of peace, compassion and inclusivity.

This valued annual event continues to provide great exposure for our trustees, teachers and committee members to network and build relationships with leaders from various Jain communities and other representatives of government and academics.
