Learning from a rook

Like humans, animals and birds also have and experience the feeling of love, harmony, collaboration, sharing of happiness and sorrow and a feeling of belonging. This I have experienced very closely. I always feel a unique affinity for animals and birds. I really like to talk to them and take care of them.

In Rajgir, a rook used to sit on a tree opposite my room. I developed a strong bond with it. To see it, to greet it, to converse with it was something I did regularly. I felt that even it loved me as much as I loved it.

One day, a parrot came and sat on my window. It was very small and weak. Its body had some injuries. I held it gently in my hands and started treating its wounds. Unfortunately, it could not fly. I enveloped it in a cloth and gave it something to eat. Suddenly, when my sight fell on the tree opposite, I saw that the rook was looking at me. It then flew over from the tree and sat on my window. I believe it came to help me.

Just then I saw that the parrot had tears in its eyes, its eyes were moist. It could not fly, and therefore it was unhappy.

Even the rook could feel the unhappiness of the parrot because it could not fly. So, the rook started to slowly show it how to fly as if a guru is teaching the disciple and instilling the feeble mind of the parrot with courage.

Seeing this, I was surprised to learn that animals and birds, too, have deep feelings and understanding. Like these birds, if we also move forward to help the needy and weak people, we can also fill many wet eyes with happiness.
